One night you ran away from it all.
No more shame, abuse, or guilt.
Finally I’m free, you thought.
Though the voices shouted louder behind you
“You’re nothing! You’re poor and ugly!”
You ran toward the light not looking back.
They took away your dignity, your pride, your self-esteem, and your beauty.
A new beginning embraced you, and gave you a life of promises.
But you didn’t accept the invitation.
Though it insisted-you resisted and gave into the past.
Determined that no one will ever hurt you again.
You learned how to smile, look pretty, dress in fancy clothes, but you were hurting inside.
You cleaned up well, and fooled everyone around you.
Except you couldn’t fool the hurting little girl inside.
Throughout the years, she kept coming back.
She taught you to, “trade faces.”
In your dreams, she became you and you became her.
The only thing to do was to love her.
